  • Nice

So this past weekend I went to BEAUTIFUL Nice, France in the French Riveria.  It was fantastic.  We arrived on Wednesday night to a practically empty airport.  The hostel that we were staying at picked us up from the airport.  The guy driving the van was from New Zealand and he didn't even speak french.  That was a bit odd.  The website for the hostel did say though that people come for the weekend and end up staying months.  Only about two people that worked at the hostel were actually French.  There as a girl from Japan, an Asian form California, I guy I think was Italian, a guy from Germany, and the owner was from Zurich.  So it was an interesting mix of people.  Also the people that were staying there were American, Austrailian, and Canadian.  I don't thinik there was many people form different areas.  We met really cool people.  On Wednesday when we arrived we met two guys from California, Jack and Brock.  On Wednesday night we went to bed right away so we could wake up early on Thursday. On Thursday we woke up to our free breakfast of ceral and toast.  It was a really cool breakfast, common area.  The hostel is built in an old Missionary and the common area is in the old chapel with stained glass windows and everything.  Thursday was our sightseeing day.  We took the bus to the port and walked along the bay.  The port was fanstatic.  I love the boats they had there.  They we amazingly beautiful.  I would settle for a job cleaning the boats.  We were keeping our eyes open for famous people but we didn't see any.  The names of the boats were cool too.  From the port we walked along the bay to the beach and along the boardwalk. We walked a lot that day.  We went in the water on the first public beach we saw.  We just put our feet in and rested on the rocks of the beach.  The beach had private beaches with restaurants, bars, and loung chairs with sun umprellas, along the beach.  They looked pretty nice.  We also went to the fruit and flower market.  It was really cool.  There was fruit, vegetables, pastries, bread, meat, cheese, fish, herbs and of course flowers.  We bought our lunch there, apples and bread.  We got huge pink lady apples.  They were delicious.  Towards the end of the day we made our way back to the hostel.  We decided to walk and see more of Nice.  Bad idea.  It was a freakin long way.  We did stop in the way to check our the Mark Chagaul museum.  I thought it was going to be bigger.  There weren't very many paintings.  But it was still cool.  Then we continued on to the hostel.  We decided to stay at the hostel that night and see if we could meet some people.  Also they had pizzas for 5 euros.  So we had pizza for dinner.  We met some more people.  We ate with Jack and Brock and then Kate, Chrissy and Chris joined us form Victoria Canada.  They were really cool and they really did say eh a lot.  Especially Chris.  Although Kate did say a priceless line...Fuck You Eh!?.  I dont really know if anyone else finds it funny, but picture it out of nowhere and the eh just makes it funny.  It's like a question.  Anyway then Alana and Amanda form Seatle joined us, later Kaylyn and Kylia from Toranto.  Eventually Katherine and M.J. from Quebec came over and plaing cards it was no fair because the were speaking french and no one else knew what they were saying.  Laslty a couple form L.A., Trevor and Amanda came over.  So we had 15 people around a small table playing Kings.  It was bit crowded and we were really loud.  We were told to be quite like 3 times. On Friday we were planning on going to the beach but it was cloudy and the forcast said rain so we decided to go to Cannes instead.  So we got ready and went to the train station.  The train station was crowded and not very well run.  They didnt have very many people working the ticket counters and the ticket machines didn't work for us.  Both Kristen and I tried our cards, all of them, and they didn't work.  So we had tostand in line.  We did miss the next train to Cannes but luckly the train went about every 20 minutes so we didn't have to wait long.  Once we got to Cannes we walked to the beach and to the port to look at the huge boats again.  They were beautiful again and I wish I had one.  We thing we say Robert Cavailli's, a designer, boat.  It had his name and symbol on it and I'm pretty sure he doesn't design boats so I don't know who elses it could be.  We also saw the center being set up for the International Cannes Film Festival, which starts May 17.  I thought it started earlier and we wanted to see some celeberties but we didn't.  Well at least we don't think we did.  So we sat at the beach for a while and saw a man making a huge sand sculpture of a easter bunny I think.  We went to Chanel and bought lipstick so we could get some free goodies.  It actaully wasn't that expenive ifyou buy makeup form the counters at department stores.  So that was cool.  We also had lunch at the Hilton.  It was damn near the best fillet I've ever had.  It was fantastic.  The vegtables torine weren
